It is the best book i have ever read. I completely fell i love with the character of Bartimaeus! He's a perfect level of witty and cocky without being too arrogant. I also think Stroud did a brilliant job of making the demons both human and at the sane time very believably unhaman. I love the whole idea of the setting, completely original! And I'm every pleased that, unlike a lot of other writers, he didn't wimp out on killing off the main character at the end, it has to be done to truly end the book properly.

previous comment deleted due to typos - yay me!

I think it's also very much worth noting that this book is completely original - you'd be hard pressed to find anything like it. And that says a lot, with the glut of "fantasy" books that have been hitting left and right. It's also quite brave of him to take his characters in directions that you wouldn't at all expect - plus, I agree: this book is often hilarious. I'm not sure which I prefer, though - the first, or the third book.
